RETIREMENT MARKS END
OF AN ERA
The end of an era was marked in March with the retirement of the company’s longest serving employee, Phil Council, after nearly 50 years’ service.
A surprise celebration was held in the office attended by staff and Phil’s wife, Elaine, who had kept the presentation a secret and been involved in the planning of the event.
Phil joined the company in August 1968 as a 15 year old apprentice carpenter. During his time with the company he has seen both the industry and in particular the company change dramatically including a management buy out of Pollard from the Pollard family and an expansion of its operational area.
Presenting Phil with a gift and a card signed by staff, Managing Director of Pollard, Bill Badham commented:
“Phil has been with the company so long that two our current board of directors had not been born when you started work at Pollard. In today’s flexible market place, it is a remarkable achievement to have been with one company for your whole career and so today really does mark the end of an era for both you and the company. We all wish you and Elaine a long and happy retirement.”
